(CNSNews.com) - Two California attorneys have filed a Freedom of Information Act
lawsuit in a bid to have the U.S. Army and CIA release documents relating to
alleged Vatican collaboration with Nazi-allied fascists in the wartime Balkans.
The Army's decision earlier this year to withhold more than 250 documents, some
at the request of the CIA, was in violation of the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure
Act, the lawyers contended in their complaint.
Jonathan Levy and Tom Easton are representing elderly Serb, Jewish and Ukrainian
survivors of atrocities committed by the Nazi puppet regime in Croatia, the
Ustashe, in a class action lawsuit against the Vatican Bank and the monastic
Franciscan Order.
Wartime intelligence documents have suggested Ustashe leaders took loot,
including gold, silver and jewelry seized from their victims, to the Vatican at
the end of the war.
There the assets were allegedly used to help finance an escape route - the
"ratline" - for Nazis trying to escape Europe, according to the Simon
Wiesenthal Center, which tracks Nazi war criminals.
The Vatican has consistently denied the allegations, while declining to open its
unpublished wartime archives despite appeals from Jewish and other groups.
The Swiss National Bank, suspected of acting as a depository for stolen Ustashe
loot, has also been named as a defendant in the class action lawsuit, and the
lawyers are awaiting a judge's order allowing the case against the Swiss to
proceed.
Levy said it was hoped the District Court in San Francisco would order the
release of more than 250 documents from files dealing with one Krunoslav
Draganavic, a Croatian priest who helped run the "ratline."
Some files had been released as early as the 1980s, when Nazi war criminal Klaus
Barbie stood trial in France. But a core of others remained withheld on
"national security" grounds, he said.
Levy said Draganavic was alleged to have worked at various times for the
intelligence services of Croatia, the Vatican, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia,
Britain and the U.S.
The lawyers said in a statement they believed "the withheld documents, most
well over 40 years old are highly embarrassing to the Americans, the British,
and Vatican."
Among those Holocaust researchers say escaped via the "ratline"
between 1945 and the late 1950s was Ustashe leader Ante Pavelic, who made his
way to Latin America using papers allegedly provided by the Vatican, and
disguised as a priest.
Barbie, known as "the butcher of Lyon," was another reported
beneficiary of the "ratline," escaping to Bolivia. It has long been
alleged the U.S. used him as an anti-communist agent after the war. A 1983
Justice Department investigation concluded that the U.S. had no relationship
with Barbie since he left Europe in 1951.
Barbie was eventually deported to France in 1983, jailed for life several years
later for crimes against humanity, and died in prison in 1991.
Another suspected user of the "ratline" was Adolf Eichmann, one of the
architects of Hitler's "final solution." He was abducted from
Argentina by Mossad agents in 1960, convicted at the end of a marathon trial in
Israel, and hanged in 1962.
Between 700,000 and 900,000 people died at the hands of the Ustashe regime,
which also participated in the systematic Nazi looting of occupied Ukraine.

Cold War Era Files May Hold the Key to Holocaust Lawsuit
A Freedom of Information Act lawsuit was filed Friday in San Francisco by California attorneys Jonathan Levy and Tom Easton against the Army and CIA.
Easton and Levy are also pursuing a Holocaust era lawsuit against the Vatican Bank and Franciscan Order regarding the disappearance of the World
War II Nazi Croatian treasury including gold, silver, and jewels plundered from concentration camp victims in Croatia and Bosnia, mainly Serbs, Jews,
and Gypsies.
The lawyers are seeking the release of over 250 documents from the files of the Croatian Nazi war criminal and Catholic priest, Fr. Krunoslav
Draganavic. Draganavic was one of the principal operators of the so-called Vatican "ratline" that smuggled Nazis and their loot to South America
between 1945 and the late 1950's. Beneficiaries of the ratline included Adolph
Eichman, Klaus Barbie "the butcher of Lyons" and the
notorious Croatian mass murderer Ante Pavelic as well as thousands of lesser known
Nazis and collaborators.
While file releases on the ratline date from as early as the 1983 Barbie case, a core of documents remain withheld on grounds of "national security."
It is these documents the attorneys want from the Army and CIA. The sinister
priest Draganavic is alleged to have worked at various times for the secret services of Croatia, the Vatican, the Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia as well
as British and American intelligence.
The attorneys have suggested that the withheld documents, most well over 40
years old are highly embarrassing to the Americans, the British, and Vatican and hold the key to a multinational money laundering scheme that used
Holocaust victim loot to finance covert Cold War era operations against the Soviet Union and its allies.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

ATTORNEYS QUESTION FAIRNESS OF SWISS BANK HOLOCAUST SETTLEMENT
Nestle AG, the well known food and candy conglomerate, announced Monday it would contribute 25 million Swiss francs ($14.6 million) to a settlement between the Swiss banks and Jewish organizations covering Holocaust-related legal claims. Jonathan Levy, an attorney for several Ukrainian organizations is questioning the distribution of those funds. Levy has opposed the virtual exclusion of non-Jewish victims from the Swiss bank settlement. Levy now is concerned that the fifteen Ukrainian former slave laborers he represents, who worked at a Nestle controlled Maggi factory in Nazi Germany will get a fair deal. "The Jewish organizations have been less than keen on sharing their largess with non-Jewish victims," said Levy, "I am worried about my Ukrainian clients being properly compensated."
Levy and California attorney Tom Easton have also been critical of the Swiss bank settlement excluding Serbs. "Serbs were the victims of incredible religious persecution in Nazi controlled Croatia, over a half million were murdered between 1941 and 1945,""say Easton and Levy, who have documents tracing Croatian wartime deposits of gold and other victim loot to the Swiss National Bank. The attorneys have lodged a lawsuit with a San Francisco Federal Court to add the Swiss National Bank as a defendant to an already pending class action against the Vatican bank and a Roman Catholic religious order who stand accused of postwar money laundering of plunder taken from Serb, Jewish, and Gypsy concentration camp victims in Croatia and Bosnia.

Nazi Gold Went Into Vatican's Bank Accounts Says Ex-Jesuit Priest / Taken from "Battle Cry" / Chick Publications / July/August 1997.
Swiss banking officials came under world wide criticism recently for accepting gold from Nazi Germany during World War II and making too little effort to return it to its rightful owners after the war. In the forefront of the effort to recover some of it were Jewish organizations trying to help holocaust victims or their families. The drama increased when a young Swiss security guard found a bin of old records waiting for the shredder and turned them over to government authorities.
He was fired for his trouble and finally had to seek refuge in the US because of hate mail, personal death threats and threats to kidnap and kill his two children. This led to US senate hearings and diplomatic pressure on Switzerland to reveal their involvement and attempt some restitution. After a token response, the Swiss stonewalled.
One of the reasons may be that it would open a far bigger can of worms than most people realize. When ex-Jesuit Alberto Rivera was being trained by the Vatican in international intrigue, he was told how, in the last days of the war, a special train flying the Vatican flag was allowed through the Allied lines. American troops were told it was a "Mercy Train" carrying medical supplies. Instead it contained Nazi gold which was routed to Swiss banks and placed in Vatican accounts.
In the Alberto comic, "The Godfathers" Rivera shows how the Vatican was deeply involved with Nazi leadership to use the war to restore Vatican domination over Europe. The plan failed, but today the pope is again trying to establish control over Europe through the European Union. He has bragged that it will hopefully be a mechanism to "restore Europe to its Christian (read Catholic) roots!" Most of the Union leadership is either Catholic or Vatican sympathizers.
In the Vatican, Augustin Cardinal Bea gave this briefing of what happened before, during and after World War II. As the war was coming to a close, the Soviet army (supplied with weapons by America), hit from the East while the allies had pushed into Germany, crushing Hitler's army.
In response to a secret request by Hitler, General Franco sent his famous Blue Army, made up mostly of basque soldiers, to Germany. An entire division was moved by train through the allied lines. It had Vatican flags. The allies were told its mission was to save nuns, priests, and monks from being killed.
The Blue Army had been betrayed. Most of the survivors ended up in Russian prisons. Americans were told the gold train passing through their lines was a "Mercy Train" from the Pope, carrying medical supplies for the wounded. When they saw the Pope's flags, it passed without inspection.
The Blue Army fought with the Germans, defending Berlin. When Adolph Hitler knew he had lost, he committed suicide and Admiral Karl Doenitz (a good Roman Catholic), took command of Nazi Germany. Instead of returning the Blue Army to Spain as the Nazis had promised, Admiral Doenitz put Germany's gold on that train and sent it to Switzerland to be put in the Swiss banks for the Vatican.
The very few ragged Blue Army survivors who got back to Spain were either shot or placed in insane asylums to make sure the true story about Germany's gold was kept secret from the world. But the special officers in the Blue Army who were part of this conspiracy returned in glory and were well rewarded for their effort.

NEW YORK -- The CIA is under pressure to release secret documents believed to
show how British intelligence used money stolen from Holocaust victims to finance Cold War operations against the former Soviet Union.
Two Californian lawyers, Jonathan Levy and Tom Easton, are taking the agency to court to obtain access to 250 papers that allegedly reveal the role of the
British and American governments in bolstering right-wing groups in South
America and elsewhere to counter the spread of communism. Many of the groups had
links to former Nazi war criminals.
The lawyers' inquiries centre on Father Krunoslav Dragan-ovic, a Croatian Catholic priest who was a member of the Ustashe, the extreme nationalist
movement that ran the country under Nazi occupation. Father Draganovic, who died in 1983, is believed to have stolen millions of
dollars worth of jewelry and other effects from victims of the Holocaust in
Croatia. Up to 700,000 people, mostly Jews, are thought to have been killed by the
Ustashe, many of them at the Jasenovac concentration camp.
Soon after the war, Father Draganovic moved to Rome, where he worked ostensibly as a secretary at a training seminary for Catholic priests. In
reality, he was involved in running the infamous ''ratline,'' an escape route to
South America for Nazi war criminals, allegedly operated by the Catholic Church and sanctioned by allied intelligence. Klaus Barbie, the notorious ''Butcher of
Lyons,'' was among those he helped to flee.
By 1962, Father Draganovic was in the pay of the CIA. Mr. Levy said he had already found documents that proved a strong connection to British intelligence,
too. The priest is also thought to have worked for the secret services of the
Vatican, the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia.
Mr. Levy, who is representing the families of 28 Serbian, Jewish and Ukrainian survivors of atrocities committed by the Ustashe in a class action
against the Vatican Bank, believes the CIA documents will reveal new details of

Father Draganovic's career. They are understood to show how money was raised from looted goods and used
by western intelligence to propel former Ustashe members into positions of influence in countries such as Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela and Croatia. Mr.
Levy believes the files could prove highly embarrassing for Whitehall, Washington and the Vatican.
''Without the help of the British and Americans, the Ustashe would have been destroyed,'' Mr. Levy said. ''They were willing to help these war criminals
launder their money and re-establish themselves.'' A report by the American State Department two years ago accused British
troops of accepting looted gold in return for the freedom of Ante Pavelic, the head of the Ustashe. After his arrest by the army's 5th Corps in 1945, Mr.
Pavelic is alleged to have handed over up to $3 million U.S. in gold coins.
However, this was only a small part of an estimated $50 million U. S. in Ustashe
gold smuggled out of Croatia.
The British Foreign Office has denied any involvement with the Ustashe but insisted that military intelligence records relating to Mr. Pavelic would never
be made public.

Over and over we hear that this is what the UN is about, but what about the hidden UN agenda and identity? The UN will ultimately be The Fourth Reich, and the dissenters will go to concentration camps or be killed, just as in Hitler's Germany, and the Third Reich! The UN fired on civilians in Rwanda, and the UN will send US citizens to US Concentration Camps in the not too distant future.
If you want to believe all the hype, and propaganda about how wonderful the UN is, and how it is the only stabilizing force in the world, then go ahead, in time you will see her true character, identity, and goals. If Rome, the Vatican, and Roman Catholicism cared so much for "Human Rights" and the equality and justice due the Jews in Nazi Germany during WWII, then why did they champion Hitler and his cause, and even allow the Franciscan order of priests to participate in the death camps and killer squads of the Ustachi?
Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco were all good Roman Catholics, and puppets of the Vatican. Why did the Vatican hide a small number of Jews so she could say to the world, "We love the Jews and we protected the Jews", when in fact, the Vatican has always been and will always be..."ANTI-SEMITIC "?
